FLoCIG Entrepreneurs: HRH Duchess of Sussex walking on shifting sand and finding her strength in changes

HRH Duchess of Sussex, Walking on shifting sand and finding her strength in changes

HRH Duchess of Sussex coat of arms, 2018

The transition and preparation of Meghan Markle to HRH Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton, Baroness Kilkeel started prior to meeting Queen Elizabeth II and has continued as a result of interacting with the British monarchy. HRH Duchess of Sussex has entered into a contract that is a lifetime bond, even if she and Prince Henry get divorced. Any children that the couple have become the ownership of the Crown. She shall unruffle feathers in the royal hierarchy and she shall need to deliver despite of this situation. If she believes in her capacity she can overcome the challenges.

HRH Duchess of Sussex is the equivalent of the 21st Century respectable face of Margarita de Castro y Sousa. Portuguese monarch Alfonso III and his mistress, Mourana Gil, an African of Moorish descent bore the child Margarita de Castro y Sousa. Six European royal house lineages can be traced from Princess Sophie Charlotte; who became Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, back to Margarita de Castro y Sousa. Mourana Gill is not the only African bloodline within the royal house of Windsor. There is also a connection to a King marrying a South African princess. During the UK Black History month the story is told.

As far as naysayers, hypocrites and racists from other UK and European aristocracies are concerned that attempt to undermine the position of HRH Duchess of Sussex, they refuse to begin to realise that as a strong Black woman with strong allies that she will deliver regardless of the situation that they try and impose upon her. HRH Duchess of Sussex is strong on her feet and is on her mission in life as she treads upon shifting sand. Be sure that through this journey of hers that she shall encounter loneliness at times from being married to HRH Prince Henry (Harry). Her navigation through the privileged societies of white individuals within the UK and across Europe requires that she be able to handle the risks with each communication and invitation. She will need the support of people from diversed societies and experiences, especially from relationships of professional and alliance worthy couples where one person is Black (predominantly of Aboriginal, African, or Caribbean descent). One such prominent alliance could be to seek the friendship of Emma, Viscountess Weymouth. Also named as Emma Thynn.

Also acknowledging that the Duchess of Sussex is an integral part of the House of Windsor gives many people a vested interest in assuring that she succeeds in her new role. She will have to learn capacity building and learn that she cannot make any mistakes as a Black woman within the royal family. She has enemies within the Court circle and enemies surrounding the Court circle who are looking, commentating and scrutinising each and every thing that she does. It is up to the Duchess of Sussex to find her own path, navigation, instinct and journey with each event; personal and professional, that she steps into and that she has to conform to. She shall definitely have to cut links with certain members of her family and friends. This is non negotiable. Especially going by the salacious comments and social media antics from her family members and friends; including ex family members, friends, colleagues and associates. She is going to need a new set of circle of friends whilst in her new role. Having Fatma Samoura ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b5c6nm/the-most-powerful-woman-in-sport ); the first ever female FIFA Secretary General and Amal Clooney, Human Rights Lawyer, within a close circle of friends for the Duchess can only be a positive thing. Every person that the Duchess integrates with will also have their personal and professional lifestyle under scrutiny and they in turn need to be strong enough to cope with this. Nevertheless, be sure that the Duchess has already made connections to known and unknown prominent British BME women (within corporate and charitable establishments) to support her as she begins a new life in the UK and as she enters into proceedings throughout the UK Commonwealth.

In her new role her appointment is historic. So what will it be like for this 21st Century Black woman, non European, Christian in the British royal family? Does she feel like a trailblazer? Has she broken the glass ceiling? Will she survive the dominance of the Monarch in her new life? Everyone already knows that HRH Duchess of Sussex has brought in a fresh wind from being on the outside. No doubt the confirmation from the Queen had come as a surprise / shock to some. Many on the inside doubting her suitability to handle the job they believe is solely for ‘the right sort of girl’.

For the Duchess of Sussex; a divorced woman, a Black woman of American culture and a former actress, she shall need to prove herself every day that she is suitable for her new position. She shall have to work twice as hard as anyone else to build and maintain her acceptance within her new society. She has to make no mistakes; this of course is impossible as we all learn from mistakes made. At least some of us do. People shall scrutinise her private life and that of her side of the family. Additionally, morally, HRH Duchess of Sussex has to be strong. If she believes in her capacity she can overcome a barrage of challenges. One of the messages that HRH Duchess of Sussex is already stating and showing to other Black girls and women whom have a low morale and a lack of guidance in their life, is that they need to believe in themselves.

The strong Black women in the UK and those Black British women who are residing and working across Europe, are the ones who are already empowered and strong and shall be the ones that the Duchess needs to align with in order to help her integrate into European societies. They have the potential to become her safety net and voice of guidance when she needs them to aid her strength on the journey that she is now embarking upon. Helping her to lead through transitions. As they understand the ways of British society with its class system from a Black cultural perspective.

How she works with lobbying groups and human rights will need some careful thought and guidance from the professional teams of people that work for her at the royal court and that she seeks private assistance from.

Introducing diversity within her private and professional environments may be a part of the consequences of having a fresh, new Duchess of Sussex.

Whether HRH Duchess of Sussex likes it or not she is a mentor and role model for millions of young girls and women who have no direction in their life. Or who have direction and continually come up against barriers in their immediate community and social circles. They are looking at how the Duchess uses her power and accentuates her influence.
